Most of my day today was spent running errands for my family, from post office, to bank, to deliver lunches etc. Not paying attention to the fact that I skipped a real breakfast and it was way past lunch time...I was HUNGRY! If you're a parent you've heard the phrase, "I'm so hungry!", more than once. I heard it several times today and it was something that caught my attention because I have been asking for God to drop a little something in my heart so that I could post on this blog. I don't post unless I feel it is something He is trying to convey not only to me but to all of the other warriors out there. So I began to search the Scriptures on hunger, not the "I'm hungry" kind, but the kind that comes from deep within us - The hunger that only God Himself can satisfy.

I found myself so hungry I grabbed the easiest thing I could eat from the grocery store before heading home. By the time I started writing this I had eaten half a batch of 5 layer bean dip, shameful admission. As I looked at the half eaten dip, I thought of whether this was a good enough "meal" to carry me through until dinnertime. Let's think about that for a second, when you are so hungry you grab the first and quickest thing and usually it isnt beneficial to your diet or your real hunger. This is what happens when we "eat" other things of the world rather than those things that will keep us fully satisfied in our Christ walk. What do we call it when we sit in front of the TV and watch one show after another? Binge watch. What I have found with that practice is that then you are done with what you are watching you are left with a feeling of being lost, saying to yourself, "what do I watch next?".

Thankfully when you eat of the "bread of life" you do not become sick to your stomach, feel empty, or even guilty. "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.'" John 6:35 ESV. Humans were made for a relationship with their Creator. When we "hunger" for the things of God, it is because we are hungry for a closer and more intimate relationship with Him. We are pressing into Him and seeking His will for our lives. We become open to what He wants to do with us rather than continue doing what we are doing in our every day life. If you are believer of Christ then you have that "bread of life" already but are you "eating" it daily.

Sometimes our hunger for God and His Word comes from a lack of spending adequate time with Him. Believe me, I know I have said, "I dont have any free time" but if I truly evaluated my time I have more than enough time to spend with God, to continue cultivating relationship, becoming more intimate and deeper in love with Him. I know what it is like to have this hunger and when I sit with Him, morning, noon, or night, I am truly satisfied. I begin to dig deeper into the Scriptures, talk to Him freely, and allow Him to point out those things which He wants to work in me. I become fixated on becoming closer to God, in better communion with Him, which then causes me to want to worship Him. This hunger will then begin to overflow and I want to be in closer relationship with other warriors around me and talk about the good, good Father we have. To share what the King of my heart has done and is doing, to cultivate intimate relationship with other warriors. When we are "hungry" for God and seek to "eat" of His food we are filled, filled with His fruit - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 ESV.

The fullness we experience will then overflow into the rest of the areas of our lives and we are no longer hungry but satisfied because God has satisfied us, not Netflix, not the book your reading, and definitely not that half eaten bowl of 5 layer bean dip. Hunger for God is a sign that we are not taking enough of Him in, that we are missing Him and He is missing you. Believe me this post isnt just for you but for me as well, I have been in a season of hunger and dryness, it is time for me to get my own hunger satisfied. So let's get satisfied and press in closer to our Father, spend more time with Him, His Word, worship Him and spend time with the like minded.
